hey folks, just thought i'd let you all in on a little bit of some local toronto happenings here.
this weekend: august 9, 10, and 11th, is toronto's annual beer festival.
it's located on the historic fort york site (bathurst & lakeshore blvd.).
Ray,
Sounds like you got your weekend planned out. Wish I was there to toss back a few with you. As it is Sheila and I will probably put a few miles on the Harley and play around the house.
Have a great time and have one for me!

okay, i think i'm crazy; and i think i need therapy.
well here's a rundown of my life: .
born; molested by cousin; best friend murdered by her father; eating disorder; abusive boyfriends; betrayed by best friend of 15 years; disfellowshipped; married after 6 months of dating; disowned by family; moved cross-country where i don't know anyone (this is only a partial list of course).
SP,
Dittos on all the good advice you have been getting thus far. I just wanted to add though, that you need to have supportive people close at hand when you start seeing the therapist. After my first couple sessions, my depression got worse, and I got angrier. Having a stranger bring you to the realization of the abuses you have survived is difficult to deal with. I had spent so long making excuses for the way my parents treated me and taking blame for things that were not my fault, seeing the truth of the situation fort he first time was almost too much. Fortunately I had Sheila and the kids there with me.

it took me over a month of reading every night before bed, but last night i finished reading crisis of conscience.
i was amazed by what i read.
the extent of disregard for peoples feelings and lack of human kindness to those who had given a major part of their lives to theocratic service, made me sick.
I re- read some of CoC last night. The attitude that Franz was able to keep while being subjected to such underhanded actions by the GB was remarkable/ I'm ashamed to say that I can't feel as forgiving as he. He contributed more than twice as much of his life to the WTS than I had and my anger at the lies is near rage right now.
I never accepted before that my life would some day end. I was keeping my eyes on the prize. Now I have to cram a lifetime of expolration and real living into the limited time I have left. With my family history that could be as little as 20 years.
I appreciate everyone's thoughts and I will be reading In Search of next.

The extent of disregard for peoples feelings and lack of human kindness to those who had given a major part of their lives to theocratic service, made me sick. To hear of how some of them were disfellowshiped offhandedly for trivialities, in their latter stages of life, was disgusting.
It was 1980 when I started to wonder for myself why things were not happening the way I had been taught. I was still active in the 80's but for the life of me can't remember hearing any more than whispers about what happened in Brooklyn. I was that brainwashed, wearing those biblical blinders I was. How anyone could remain in active membership with an organization that has become so calluse and cruel is beyond me. I suppose it is true that many are stuck because their family and friends are there. Those friendships though are forced, based on eronious teachings, judgemental attitudes and lies.
As I read the book things began to make sense. I still have a few of the old books and went back to check on some of the statements that Franz made. He was right. Teachings were continuallu tweaked to make things seem to fit their time line, their agenda. Why couldn't they just admit ignorance? Why must they allow their pride and need to control cause divisions among friends and families? I always fell back on the "where else are we to go?", attitude. I figured that in the longrun the org. was the best choice out there. The basic lifestyle teachings were good. If only the leadership practiced what they preached.
Franz said something at the end of his book that got my attention. Probably the truest statement in the book. "To believe because others believe, is to have a borrowed conviction and a borrowed faith. To be genuine, and to lead to life, these must be the product of one's own mind and one's own heart." I'm still figuring out what I believe and who I believe in. When I get there, it will be right for me, of me and for me. When I have made myself whole, for I believe there is a place for faith in me, I will be that much better a husband to Sheila, a friend to my friends and man to my world.

Drs.Q and Dubla,
Your responses speak to the fact that our society is in a piss poor state. Would that we demanded more ot those we choose to idolize.

I was watching one of the sports chanels the other day and saw an hour long story on Mr. Tyson. There were several segments showing different prefight interviews. His behavior at these gatherings was incorrigable. I must admit that my opinion of Tyson had been greatly effected by his criminal convictions. I don't feel it is right for criminals to have a prominent position in the public eye. How they ever allowed him to fight professionaly again after the ear biting incident is beyond me. He made the news today, seems he's broke and seeking chapter 11 protection. I know he didn't spend all his money on "finishing school".
I understand that a prize fighter needs to have somewhat of a "killer instinct" but Mr. Tyson has taken those instincts to the nth degree. Ho was videotaped on several ocasions attacking opponents during news conferences. More of the story showed him swearing at the media and threatening to sodomize some of the reporters. At one point he even made the statement that he wanted to "eat their children".
When is enough enough? If I had a dog that vicious, I would put it down without a second thought. Mr. Tyson's behavior is reprehensible, not much different from that of a junk yard dog. I can honestly think of nothing to be gained from his continued existence as a celebrity figure. He needs to be smacked down hard and swept under the carpet.
What kind of messages are we sending our youth when animals like him are making millions of dollars, entertaining a small segment of the population. How many violent crimes commited, sentences served, or victims hurt, before his behavior is rewarded in kind? How does one get away with what he has done? His propensiity to re-offend has been proven for all to see. Why is he not is some cell somewhere under lock and key?
Is he some misunderstood soul with emotional scars from past abuses commited on him? Did his father beat him, was he molested or tortured in his childhood? Maybe so, but that is no excuse for his antisocial behavior to be acceptable. More likely I think he's just another ass#*!@ with more braun than brains. A misanthropic waste of skin, that society will have to hear about for the rest of his miserable life. He displays to the public only hatred and violence. I have yet to see in him any redeming qualities. Perhaps he saves that side of him for his family. I honestly hope so, because the thought that he and I are breathing the same air is repulsive to me.
If you hadn't noticed, I don't like Mike.
What do you think?

police: parents allowed girl to stay with man who molested her .
associated press
hopewell, pa. - a couple allowed a relative who had been convicted of molesting their 10-year-old daughter to babysit the girl, police said.
The possibility of rehabilitating a child molester to me is questionable at best. If the proponants of rehabilitation are defining pedofilia (sp?) as an illness, than those sufferers should be quarantined, isolated from the targets of their affliction.
If it is not an illness, as I tend to believe, then no punishment is too severe. Their targets are the most helpless and innocent of our society. Their actions and desires, the depth of depravity. Chemical castration, literal castration, imprisonment or even execution seem fair recompense for their deeds.
The parents of the child in question are without a doubt fools, and do not deserve to have the responsiblity of raising children. When my children were small, Sheila and I wouldn't allow anyone without an impecable reputation to watch them in our absence. This made for very limited time away from them. Our alone time was after they had gone to bed, in our room, with them safely tucked away in their beds.
If my statements seem to judgemental and severe, then I might offer that the matter be handed over to the Almighty, we could, in the words of one, "kill them all and let God sort it out!"

by nature, are you a person that typically makes a judgment on your gut feeling or do you feel that you don't have all the facts to judge against someone?
Pleasant suprises are always welcome Minimus. But no expectations means no dissapointments. An earned reputation far more valuable than an infered one.
